(Our dog died, unexpectedly)

Hi !  Welcome back. This week I am thinking (and writing) …very little, for reasons explained below. If you haven’t subscribed yet, you can join here or by clicking the button below. - Eve D.ā£ļø

WEEK IN REVIEW

😄 It’s a sad day. Last night, everything was perfect and rosy. This morning, we woke up to a dog who was struggling to stand up, had two seizures, and wasn’t eating. It was a quick, unexpected, harrowing but right decision to hug him tight, thank him for the 12 years he spent with us, and help him cross over in search of those rainbows 🌈 . That was just an hour ago.

Aldo was my mom’s dog. We got him as a surprise for her (she vowed she didn’t want another dog), and they were inseparable. When my mom passed away, Micole became his person, and they had so much fun together. Aldo never grew up. He was going through his boisterous puppy phase right until the end…something I think Airedale Terriers are known for. He was mischievous, unbelievably cuddly and so very sweet tempered. He also guarded the family with his life..he had this deep, loud bark that kept everyone who was not family at bay (I guess that’s Lisa’s job now).

We are all going to miss him immensely, and I am just so grateful that his demise was quick and painless. That has never been true of any other dog I owned, and I do know that this way is just so much better for all concerned. But, at the same time, I also cannot, cannot, cannot believe he is no longer with us. He was perfectly fine yesterday?! 😢

So…forgive me for an abridged newsletter today. I am not much in the mood for writing, and I assure you that you wouldn’t want to be reading whatever it is that I’d come up with. I do want to thank all of you who reached out after last week’s announcement of my book (If you’re new, you can read last week’s newsletter here), and for all the encouragement and support. You have no idea how much it means to me.

Now go hug your creatures, and I’ll see you next week.
